CPN Number

What are CPN Numbers? CPN is a Credit Privacy Number. A CPN is nothing more than 9 digit number that has a SSN Prefix that has not been issued. It acts just as a SSN but to obtain credit history that will report to the credit bureaus. This number is NOT an EIN OR TAX ID NUMBER, and is not issued by the government. The ONLY time you CANNOT provide your CPN is when you are applying for government assistance, filing taxes, employment, applying for a federal loan, etc. It is nothing more than just a credit reporting file number to build credit, apply for credit cards, auto loans, and leasing an apartment. Believe it or not but commonly celebrities, victims of identity theft/fraud, or who just want to protect their SSN use a CPN.
